I strongly support using DNA evidence to acquit the innocent, but also to convict the guilty. That is the problem. DNA may be used in less than 1% of criminal cases. If so, that 273 is 1% of 27,300 wrongly convicted people. The sample is obviously a small one, but consider this. In America Caucasians outnumber African Americans by a ratio of about 6 to 1, yet of these 273, wrongly convicted African Americans outnumber wrongly convicted Caucasians by a margin of 2 to 1. |
